Learn the knowledge behind the procedure
Phlebotomy involves more than collecting a sample. A technician must understand why patient identification, preparation, specimen handling, and clear documentation matter at every stage. Stonecrest’s coursework connects these responsibilities with the foundations of blood collection.
What you will study
Foundations of phlebotomy
Explore the phlebotomy technician’s role, professional responsibilities, medical terminology, and the body systems relevant to blood collection. Build the vocabulary needed to follow instructions and communicate within a healthcare team.
Patient identification and communication
Study how accurate identification and clear explanations support safe specimen collection. Review professional communication, patient preparation, and respectful interactions with people who may feel anxious about a blood draw.
Collection equipment and procedures
Learn about collection supplies, tube selection, order of draw, and the sequence of venipuncture and capillary collection. Connect equipment choices and procedural steps with specimen quality.
Safety and infection prevention
Review standard precautions, personal protective equipment, sharps safety, and practices that reduce exposure risks. Safety is part of each stage of preparation, collection, and cleanup.
Specimen handling and documentation
Explore labeling, handling, transport considerations, and documentation. Learn why errors before laboratory analysis can affect a specimen’s usefulness and why following collection instructions matters.
How online learning works
Follow a structured sequence of lessons and learning activities. Readings, recorded instruction, study resources, quizzes, and assessments support your progress. Instructor support is available as you work through the material. Students have 90 calendar days to complete the program.
Skills practice and completion
Online coursework is paired with structured skills practice and instructor review. Review the program overview for the current demonstration and documentation requirements, including the venipuncture and capillary skills component. Contact Stonecrest before arranging any practice involving a patient or outside supervisor.
The $550 program price includes the textbook and phlebotomy skills kit. Successful completion of the required coursework, assessments, and skills requirements leads to a Stonecrest Health Certificate of Completion.
Course completion and national certification
A school certificate and national certification are different credentials. Certification organizations set their own eligibility, examination, and documented-experience requirements. Do not assume that simulated practice satisfies a certifier’s clinical requirements. Review the current requirements with the certifying organization before choosing an examination pathway. National examination fees are separate from tuition.

Do I need healthcare experience?
No prior medical experience is required. Applicants should review the program’s age, education, and technology requirements before applying.
Are supplies included?
The current program price includes the required textbook and phlebotomy skills kit.
Does applying enroll me automatically?
No. Enrollment is pending approval. There is no application fee, and tuition is not collected until enrollment is officially available.
